Awards medal to Red Crescent Football Championship winners, distributes wheelchairs among special women
ISLAMABAD: First Lady Begum Mamnoon Hussain said that participation of girls in sports activities is key to a healthier society and stress the needs for more participation for women empowerment and a prosperous society.
The First Lady said this while addressing a function in connection with International Girl Child Day at President House organized by Pakistan Red Crescent Women Forum.
The first lady lauded the services of the women in different fields of life and bringing laurels for the country. She assured her full support to Red Crescent Women Forum in its activities aim at women empowerment.
The First lady also appreciated the efforts of the women who were the worst victims of EQ 2005 but fought with courage and never let these fears to overpower them. She said that these women deserve special attention so that they can play a positive role in the society.
PRC Chairman Dr Saeed Elahi on the occasion said that this year the PRC Women Forum in connection with International Girl Child Day organised a Girls Football Tournament to catch the spirit of sportsmen ship and provide them an opportunity to display their potential.
He said the Pakistan Red Crescent Women’s Forum will address the specific experiences of Pakistani women and girls in times of disaster (whether natural or human induced), such as distinct healthcare
needs in emergencies, or vulnerabilities due to early warnings could not be able to reach women while they are at home.
Former Pakistani Women Football Captain Sana Mehmood and Amber Rasheed also spoke on the occasion.
Later, the First Lady distributed shields among women participants besides distribution of wheelchairs among disabled women. The ceremony was attended by representatives of International and national NGOs, students and female volunteers of the PRC.
