Success Story of Y&V
Thank you Volunteer!
Young people are key agents for social change and are providing the energy, creative ideas and determination to drive innovation and reforms. Volunteerism, on the other hand, is an equally important and increasingly popular, mechanism for young people to bring about positive change in society and it is becoming the most relevant mechanism to engage young people in global peace and sustainable human development. One billion people globally are active volunteers and around one in three young people report that they are volunteering. On the other hand, one in five young volunteers globally volunteers through different organizations.
Pakistan Red Crescent Society is a leading humanitarian organization of Pakistan that has more than seven hundred thousand registered volunteers and PRCS AJK State Branch on the other hand has over twenty thousand registered volunteers and numbers are increasing day by day for active participation for vulnerable and suffering humanity.
In this regard, in November 2021, the Youth & Volunteer Department of Pakistan Red Crescent Society AJk State Branch had established a youth club in district Muzaffarabad of AJ&K. The main purpose of establishing a youth club was to build the capacity of youth, to raise awareness about humanitarian actions, Sustainable Development Goals, and to bring positive change in the society. Thirty-five participants (students) registered themselves as a member of that youth club. The participants were also taught about Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, First Aid Training, and climate change. Later in December 2021, the Youth & Volunteer Department of PRCS AJK celebrated International Volunteers Day (IVD). On this occasion, volunteers along with youth club members were sensitized about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Moreover, Red Talk (a motivational session) was also organized.
After the establishment of the Youth Club and International Volunteers Day celebration members of the youth club got motivated and decided to contribute to the suffering and vulnerable people of the local community. In this connection, the club had gathered warm clothes with the help of their friends, relatives and packed them. Afterwards, 135 families including men, women and children (most of them belonged to the Christian community) were handed over sweaters, jackets, socks and gloves to avoid harsh weather conditions. Furthermore, they went to their doorsteps and handed over these items.
“We did not have any significant arrangements to avoid this cold weather. Our children were shivering from the cold. We are grateful to the staff of Pakistan Red Crescent Society and volunteers who helped us without any financial support and any religious discrimination” said Riasat Maseeh one of the beneficiaries of the distribution.
The Youth & Volunteer Department of Pakistan Red Crescent Society AJK State Branch will continue to establish youth clubs and will make the members a valuable asset to the society by imparting various trainings, orientations to them so that members can help suffering and vulnerable humanity keeping in view the seven fundamental principles of the international Red Cross & Red Crescent movement without any religious and political discrimination.
