Situation Update #3: Conflict Escalation on the Pakistan–Afghanistan Border
10 March, 2026
The humanitarian situation along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border has escalated into a high-intensity conflict following the launch of Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq by the Pakistan Army. The operation was initiated to target militant sanctuaries and neutralize cross-border threats that have increasingly destabilized the region.
Military operations, including precision airstrikes and ground offensives, are currently underway across multiple sectors to secure the frontier. These intensified actions aim to dismantle the command-and-control structures of hostile elements while responding to persistent unprovoked fire from across the border.
The conflict has triggered an urgent humanitarian crisis, further aggravating the challenges faced by displaced populations and returning communities.

Under the direction of Pakistan Red Crescent Society leadership, the management team is conducting regular coordination meetings at the National Headquarters (NHQ) with relevant departments to monitor the evolving situation and refine response plans.
On 5 March 2026, a Movement Coordination Meeting was convened to review preparedness and response strategies. All Movement partners reaffirmed their full support to PRCS humanitarian operations.
Emergency Response Teams (ERTs) and ambulances remain on standby for immediate deployment to affected areas.
Restoring Family Links (RFL) units and trained volunteers are ready to support affected families and reconnect separated relatives where needed.
Risk Awareness and Safer Behavior (RASB) teams are actively conducting community awareness sessions in conflict-affected areas to reduce risks and enhance public safety.
The Chaman Border remains open for pedestrian transit, where health services are operational with ongoing support from the British Red Cross through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Meanwhile, undocumented Afghan migrants are being detained and deported by authorities.
The Torkham Border remains closed, leaving approximately 100 Afghan migrant families temporarily stranded until it reopens.
The PRCS Communication Team continues to monitor national media and social media platforms to ensure accurate information dissemination and provide visibility of humanitarian response activities.
