PROGRAM INTRODUCTION
The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) partners with the International Federation of Red Cross
and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) on a $10 million project to combat COVID-19 and emerging infectious
diseases.
The two-year project will support five countries: Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, and the
Philippines. These countries were chosen due to their high risk of natural disasters, climate change
impacts, and infectious disease outbreaks. In Pakistan, the program will be executed through PRCS.
Goal:
The goal of this project is to enhance preparedness and response to COVID-19 and emerging infectious diseases by establishing a medical stockpile, improving regional coordination, and strengthening healthcare system resilience.
Project Objective:
Strengthen preparedness and response capabilities of ASEM partners for COVID-19 and emerging infectious diseases.
Enhance swift deployment of essential medical resources to affected areas.
Implementation:
Procurement, storage, and deployment of essential medical resources
Implemented by ASEF through the IFRC (International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies)
Executed in Pakistan through PRCS (Pakistan Red Crescent Society)
Key Program Activities:
1. Procurement and prepositioning of medical stock for immediate response to any epidemic or disease outbreak, such as Basic Medical Equipment, Medicines, First Aid kits, PPEs, etc.
2. Activity-2: Capacity building of the in-country staff and volunteers of PRCS (including staff from MOH):
3. Staff is well prepared to immediately respond to any disease outbreak/epidemic.
4. Upgradation of Medical Warehouses Management Software for medical warehouses of the PRCS.
5. Coordination with external partners and visibility of the project: (WHO, MoH, and the Japanese Embassy.)
6. Monitoring and Reporting. (Monitoring by the ASEF and Japanese MOFA, Reporting by IFRC/PRCS.)
