PRCS Situation Update #10: Continuing Humanitarian Response in Tirah and Kurram
15 April, 2026
In January 2026, rising security concerns and internal conflict in Tirah Valley (Khyber) and Kurram districts forced many families to abandon their homes for safety. These displaced families have temporarily relocated to safer areas such as Bara and Peshawar, residing with relatives, in rented housing, or informal settlements. This sudden displacement created urgent humanitarian needs, including food, healthcare, clean water, and hygiene support.
In response, the Pakistan Red Crescent Society, supported by Movement Partners including the Norwegian Red Cross (NoRC), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Turkish Red Crescent (TRC), and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), has activated emergency response mechanisms to provide comprehensive assistance addressing the varied needs of vulnerable populations in Tirah and Kurram.
