First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari Inaugurates Begum Nusrat Bhutto Library at PRCS National Headquarters


Islamabad, 14 May 2026: Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, First Lady of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, inaugurated the newly named Begum Nusrat Bhutto Library at the National Headquarters of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society in Islamabad. The ceremony was held to honor the enduring humanitarian legacy and compassionate leadership of Begum Nusrat Bhutto.

The Chief Guest was accompanied by Shazia Marri. The event was attended by Chairperson PRCS Farzhana Naek, Secretary General Muhammad Abaidullah Khan, and representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Turkish Red Crescent, Norwegian Red Cross, and German Red Cross, along with PRCS programme heads and officers.

The ceremony commenced with the ribbon-cutting of the Begum Nusrat Bhutto Library, followed by a tour of the PRCS disaster response display and the photo exhibition titled “PRCS Humanitarian Journey.” During the visit, Chairperson PRCS Mrs. Farzhana Naek briefed the Chief Guest on PRCS humanitarian services, emergency response efforts, and historical contributions in serving vulnerable communities across Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Aseefa Bhutto Zardari highly appreciated the humanitarian services of PRCS and graciously wore the PRCS red jacket, symbolizing volunteerism and her support for the Red Million Movement of PRCS youth and volunteers. She encouraged the youth of Pakistan to join the volunteer network of PRCS and contribute to strengthening humanitarian services, community resilience, and a culture of compassion across the country.

The Chief Guest later unveiled the commemorative plaque of the Begum Nusrat Bhutto Library and signed the Visitors’ Library Book, appreciating the initiative as a valuable effort to preserve humanitarian values, learning, and volunteerism for future generations.

Chairperson PRCS Mrs. Farzhana Naek stated that the library is a tribute to the enduring legacy of compassion, public service, and humanitarian leadership of Begum Nusrat Bhutto. She noted that the library will serve as an important platform for learning, research, and inspiration for youth, volunteers, and future humanitarians.

She also expressed her sincere gratitude to Aseefa Bhutto Zardari for gracing the occasion and described her presence as a continuation of a proud humanitarian legacy devoted to service and humanity.

The ceremony concluded with a group photograph of the Chief Guest with PRCS leadership, management, officers, and Heads of Delegation of the ICRC, IFRC, and partner National Societies working in Pakistan.
