PRCS and BISP Join Hands to Strengthen Support for Vulnerable Communities

Islamabad: The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) and the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Islamabad to strengthen cooperation in humanitarian assistance, disaster preparedness and response, social protection, data sharing, community resilience, and support for vulnerable communities across Pakistan.

The partnership will also create opportunities for joint initiatives, including blood donation drives, First Aid trainings, and other community-based programmes, drawing on the expertise and outreach networks of both organizations.

The MoU was signed by PRCS Secretary General Muhammad Abaid Ullah Khan and BISP Director General NSER Asim Ijaz, under the supervision of PRCS Chairperson Mrs. Farzhana Naek and BISP Chairperson Mrs. Rubina Khalid.

Through the agreement, PRCS and BISP will strengthen institutional coordination, outreach, and mechanisms for identifying vulnerable and underserved populations, with particular attention to communities affected by disasters and other humanitarian challenges.

A key area of collaboration will be support for PRCS Anticipatory Action and Forecast-based Financing initiatives. By leveraging relevant socio-economic and vulnerability data, the partnership will help identify at-risk households in disaster-prone areas, including communities located along the Indus River and its major tributaries.

This enhanced coordination will support more timely and targeted humanitarian assistance ahead of forecasted hazards, helping vulnerable households better prepare for and withstand potential disasters.

The partnership also provides a broader platform for cooperation across relevant PRCS and BISP programmes, utilizing their respective expertise, systems, data, and extensive outreach networks to strengthen humanitarian assistance, social protection, preparedness, and community resilience across Pakistan.
