Islamabad, [26th Dec 2023] – Embracing the festive spirit, the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) orchestrated a lively Christmas celebration at its National Headquarters, uniting a diverse audience to mark the joyous occasion. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Chairman PRCS, Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari, and saw enthusiastic participation from the Head of Delegation and representatives of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Pakistan, as well as partner National Societies such as the Turkish Red Crescent, German Red Cross, Norwegian Red Cross, PRCS staff, and dedicated volunteers.
The celebration featured the ceremonial cutting of a Christmas cake, symbolizing solidarity and offering prayers for the organization’s strength and resilience. The entire auditorium was adorned with festive decorations, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Adding to the spirit of inclusivity, a Pastor and a Bishop from the Christian community graced the event, offering prayers and commending the PRCS for its exemplary service to humanity. They extended their gratitude to Chairman Laghari for spearheading this inclusive celebration.
Chairman Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari, speaking on the occasion, expressed, “Christmas is a day of spreading love, peace, and compassion. Beneath the banner of humanity, we are all one.” Chairman Laghari announced plans to facilitate visits for Christian employees to their holy places, emphasizing PRCS’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity. He also distributed Christmas gifts among the Christian staff. Special prayers were offered for the well-being of the Christian community, along with seeking blessings for the progress and prosperity of the nation.
In his opening remarks, Secretary General PRCS, Muhammad Abaidullah, emphasized the significance of the occasion and the unity it fosters among different communities.
Piwi Ophoff, Head of Country Delegation, IFRC in Pakistan, in his address, praised the long history of humanitarian services within the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement. He commended PRCS for organizing the wonderful event and conveyed a message of peace, stability, and religious harmony on the eve of Christmas.
